They say it takes a Village to raise a child. We think it takes a Community to heal another person and we want to be that community.

Jesus said, "...if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

You Can Make A DifferenceWe have stepped out in faith because we believe that God is calling us to something great and we can't do it alone. Life can be messy and just downright difficult. Traumatic experiences can happen to anyone. It is in those difficult and traumatic times when we, as humans, most need community. Real community made up of people who understand life's difficulties and are able and willing to stand beside another and journey through the difficulties together. Real community doesn't abandon you when things get tough or ugly. Real community provides that safe place where you can scream, cry, or just be silent.

The Companions of Christ Monastery wants to be that Real Community. A place of peace and welcome to every single person who needs a safe harbor to weather the storms of life. Our goal is to work with those who have experienced traumatic events (such as: loss of job, major health events, human trafficking, house fires, depression, drug addiction). We will have experienced trained spiritual and mental health counselors that live permanently at the Monastery trained to come alongside any person needing support. We will not turn anyone away who truly seeks help. We will provide temporary housing and support in which a person can heal, whether it be a day, a weekend, or a month — the Monastery will be a sanctuary for healing and peace. We will utilize the Forgiveness Curriculum of the International Forgiveness Institute of Madison, Wisconsin. It is an evidence-based Forgiveness Curriculum designed to address many different issues.

The Companions of Christ Monastery is an Old Catholic monastic community comprised of singles (both celibate and non-celibate) and couples called together as a monastic spiritual family into deep relationships with and in Jesus Christ. Although we are liturgically and theologically an Old Catholic Monastery we are intentional in our commitment to be ecumenical and welcome all Christians who wish to join the community as members. We welcome ALL persons who seek a place of peace and healing.

Our ministry is a ministry of service, healing, and hospitality. The Monastery will be a place of peace and healing for any person who seeks refuge.

“At my window a light will be burning.
All may come in; the arms of a friend will always be waiting.”
-Pope John XXIII

We will offer pastoral and psychological counseling, spiritual direction, retreats, and generally be a place to refresh one's soul.

Our community is unique in that it will be integrated in many ways. We include both male and female, celibate and non-celibate, family and single. We will also integrate the various monastic traditions like Franciscan, Benedictine, Trappist, and many others. We will balance contemplative and charismatic, stable (i.e., living in one place) and itinerant (i.e., traveling); solitary and communal; and eremitical and active ministry. For Old Catholics, the Eucharist is the summit and pinnacle of worship and so we will celebrate the Mass on a daily basis. The public will always be welcome to join us at all worship services.

The Monastery will support itself by farming/gardening for our own use as well as to sell at local farmer's markets as well as producing items for sale. Daily tasks will include office work, cooking, cleaning, and maintenance of the grounds and buildings. We will work to make the Monastery as self-sufficient as possible to decrease our costs.

Would you step out in faith with us as we respond to God's call? Your tax-deductible gift is most appreciated.
