Reza Aslan, author of the new book Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, was interviewed on NPR he was asked about how we think about Jesus, Aslan said,
There are billions of Christians in the world who believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the living incarnation of God. And that's a perfectly fine belief, but whatever else he was -- whether he was the Messiah, or God, or what have you -- he was also a man, he was a human being.
I think this can speak to us as we follow The Way that is Christ's. We are called to live authentic lives in relationship with one another.
: real or genuine : not copied or false
: true and accurate
: made to be or look just like an original
As followers of The Way, living authentically creates real community. It's when we take off the mask and show our true identities that we can truly begin to understand real divine Love. SFOCC is a place where we try our best to live authentic lives. You don't have to be anything other than who you are here. Sometimes that might be depressed you, broken you, poor you, rich you, gay you, straight you, whatever it is that you are.....We want to get to know who God made you to be not who society wants you to pretend you are.
This post was inspired by my friend, Brandon Wallace and his book Straight-Face. Brandon was the keynote speaker at Crave Conference in Australia and his presentation God loves you, not your mask is a wonderful talk.
